  • Ships individually in protective packaging
  • Consisting of 1 oz of 999 Fine Silver
  • Obverse: Features an effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II
  • Reverse: Features a platypus against a coloured rain forest background highlighting a waterfall and a river

The Platypus is the fourth design in the Australian Map Shaped Coin Series. The platypus is a semi-aquatic mammal found in Eastern Australia. It has a beaver tail, a duck bill and otter-like feet. It's unusual appearance caused much debate among scientists. Most insisted it was a fake. This coin is uniquely shaped like the map of Australia.

The obverse features the Queen Elizabeth II effigy by Ian Rank-Broadley and the words "ELIZABETH II AUSTRALIA 2013 1 DOLLAR". The reverse depicts the struck design of a platypus against a coloured rain forest background highlighting a waterfall and a river. The inscription "Platypus" appears above the platypus as well as the words "1 oz 999 Silver" with the year 2013 below it.

ABOUT PERTH MINT

The Perth Mint opened in 1899 as the British Royal Mint's 3rd branch in Australia. The historical Hay Street location handled gold refining until moving to a modern facility in April 1990. Ownership of the mint was transferred to the Government of Western Australia in July of 1970. Under an agreement with the Commonwealth Treasury, they were empowered to mint and market gold, silver, and platinum as Australian legal tender to investors and collectors worldwide. Today, they are amongst the elite world mints whose pure gold, silver, and platinum items are trusted without question. Items such as the Australian Nugget, Silver Coin Series (Kangaroo, Kookaburra, Koala, and Platypus to name a few), as well as the Australian Lunar Gold and Silver Coin Series are extensively sought after by bullion investors worldwide.
